MPs’ expenses: allowances for second home, office and staff can reach £160,000 on top of £64,000 salary

Backbench MPs are paid a basic salary of £64,766 and also receive free use of an office in Parliament.

But in order to help them work in both Westminster and their constituencies, they can claim a further £160,827 a year in staff, office and second home costs, as well as thousands more in travel.
