Concerns over anti-extremism funding

Taxpayers’ money aimed at tackling extremism has been spent on buying table tennis tables, funding theatre work and even projects run by restaurants, it has emerged.

The multi-million pound programme has been called in to question amid concerns over some of the groups receiving public money.

A total of £12 million has been distributed projects under the Government’s Prevent programme but there is insufficient monitoring of how it is being spent, the report by the TaxPayers’ Alliance said.
