School pupils ‘taught by untrained staff’

Untrained classroom assistants – including former nightclub bouncers, postmen and driving instructors – are being employed as teachers “on the cheap”, it has been disclosed.

Support staff are being left in charge of lessons for months at a time, according to a study.

Headteachers admitted that concerns over budgets meant teaching assistants, who are normally tasked with putting up displays, preparing lessons and reading to young pupils, were being used to educate dozens of children.
